Top Ten Songs about Falling in Love at First Sight

Love at first sight may be an ideal or a fantasy that reality has a tough time providing. But I think that the idea is just a reinforcement of the belief that who we love was written in the stars, predestined or meant to be. We fall in love at first sight with someone not because of how they look or because we lust, but because our heart’s recognize the other half of our soul.

“A Wink and a Smile” by Harry Connick, Jr.

“A Wink and A Smile” is a cute, fluffy song that makes you happy just hearing it. What is more flirty than having someone wink and smile at you?

I remember the days
of just keeping time
of hanging around in sleepy towns, forever
Back roads empty for miles
well you cant have a dream
and cut it to fit
but when I saw you, I knew
we go together, like a wink and a smile
Leave your old jallopy
by the railroad track
we’ll get a hip, double dip, tip toppy, two-seat pontiac
So you can rev her up
don’t go slow
It’s only green lights and alright
let’s go together with a wink and a smile

“Angel of Mine” by Monica

This Brandy song could be about someone who is loving from a distance or is in a relationship and confessing their feelings for the first time. This song says “How you changed my world you’ll never know / I’m different now, you helped me grow / You came into my life sent from above / When I lost all hope you showed me love.”

When I first saw you I already knew
There was something inside of you
Something I thought that I would never find
Angel of mine

I looked at you looking at me
Now I know why they say the best things are free
I’m gonna love you boy, you are so fine
Angel of mine

“Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley

This classic Elvis song was featured in the movie Blue Hawaii. Initially, the producers of the movie didn’t like the song, but Elvis insisted on recording it. It became his most popular “love song” although in the movie he sings it to his grandmother on his birthday. If you’re not an Elvis fan, check out the UB40 or Michael Buble versions.

Wise men say only fools rush in
but I can’t help falling in love with you
Shall I stay? Would it be a sin?
If I can’t help falling in love with you

“Crazy For You” by Madonna

Madonna’s expressive ballad captures that moment when you first fall in love or see someone that sparks your interest. This song was written by John Bettis and Jon Lind.

I see you through the smokey air
Can’t you feel the weight of my stare
You’re so close but still a world away
What I’m dying to say, is that

“I’m a Believer” by The Monkees or Smash Mouth

Rarely do I like remakes of classic songs, but Smash Mouth managed to take this song and put enough of their own spin on it that it is almost like an entirely different song than The Monkees’ version. The song was written by Neil Diamond.

I thought love was
Only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else
But not for me
Love was out to get to me
That’s the way it seems
Disappointment haunted
All my dreams

And then I saw her face
Now I’m a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I’m in love
I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her
If I tried

“Some Enchanted Evening” by Dean Martin, Perry Como and many others

“Some Enchanted Evening” is from the musical South Pacific but it doesn’t have the “musical” feel that some songs have. The song is not about a love that has happened, but more of a wish for love to come along.

Some enchanted evening
You may see a stranger
You may see a stranger across a crowded room
And somehow you know
You know even then
That someday you’ll see her again and again

“Something About The Way You Look Tonight” by Elton John

This song was released as a double A-side single with “Candle in the Wind 1997” and was dedicated to the memory of Gianni Versace, who had been murdered earler that year.

I need to tell you
How you light up every second of the day
But in the moonlight
You just shine like a beacon on the bay

And I can’t explain
But it’s something about the way you look tonight
Takes my breath away
It’s that feeling I get about you, deep inside
And I can’t describe
But it’s something about the way you look tonight
Takes my breath away
The way you look tonight

“The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack or Celine Dion

This classic love song has two great versions one by Roberta Flack and another by Celine Dion. If you have never heard this song, then you’ve never been to a wedding. It’s a favorite for first dances.

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the night and the empty skies my love
To the night and the empty skies

“The One” by Elton John

I put this song on this list because of the lines “In the instant that you love someone / In the second that the hammer hits / Reality runs up your spine / And the pieces finally fit.” What better way to describe love at first sight?

And all I ever needed was the one
Like freedom fields where wild horses run
When stars collide like you and I
No shadows block the sun
You’re all I’ve ever needed
Baby you’re the one

“You Had Me From Hello” by Kenny Chesney

The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart when it was released in 1999. The lyrics talk about how “Something in your voice caused me to turn my head / Your smile, just captured me /
You were in my future as far as I could see.”

Well you had me from hello
I felt love start to grow
The moment I looked into your eyes you won me
It was over from the start you completely stole my heart
And now you won’t let go
I never even had a chance you know
You had me from hello
