Top Ten Love Songs about Fighting for Someone You Love

We all, or I guess women, dream of being rescued by a knight in shining armor, which is probably why this list is dominated by male singers. It also seems to be dominated by songs featured in action movies, but that doesn’t make them bad.

“All For Love” by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting

This is a great song because it’s sung in sort of a round table format. It was featured in the movie Three Musketeers, which wasn’t strong on the romance front. Still, this song talks about all the things one will do for the person that they love.

When it’s love you make
I’ll be the fire in your night
then it’s love you take
I will defend, I will fight
I’ll be there when you need me
When honor’s at stake,
this vow I will make:
that it’s all for one and all for love
Let the one you hold be the one you want,
the one you need,
’cause when it’s all for one it’s one for all
When there’s someone that should know
then just let your feelings show
and make it all for one and all for love

“All Right” by Christopher Cross

Of all the songs on this list, this song is not as forceful as some of the others. And it’s not just because Christopher Cross sounds like he never went through puberty. It’s from the lyrics that say “I think we’re gonna make it / I think it might just work out this time.” The song is a good choice if you’re fighting to get a second chance with someone.

I know I’ve been hurt before
And I know I really shouldn’t give any more
But this time
This time things seem just a little different
And when I look in your eyes
You know I can see that it’s true
And I hear you say it’s all right

“Don’t Give Up” by Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush

In this song, the female lead is sort of encouraging the male singer. It almost feels as if she is a guardian angel as opposed to a lover. She comes on and tells him “Don’t give up / Cause you have friends / Don’t give up / You’re not beaten yet / Don’t give up / I know you can make it good.”

In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose

“(Everything I Do) I Do it for You” by Bryan Adams

This song is featured in the Kevin Costner movie Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (over the credits). Adams used a line in the movie “I do it for you…” as the basis of the song as it was specifically written for the movie. Originally, the studio did not want it included as it does not use instruments true to the period, but it was included and became a huge hit.

Look into my eyes, you will see
What you mean to me
Search your heart; search your soul
And when you find me there you’ll search no more

Don’t tell me it’s not worth tryin’ for
You can’t tell me it’s not worth dyin’ for
You know it’s true
Everything I do, I do it for you

“Glory of Love” by Peter Cetera

This song represents, to me, what every woman is dreaming of. I think the lines that sum it up best is “LIke a knight in shining armor / From a long time ago / Just the time I’d save the day / Take you to my castle far away.” This song was featured in the movie Karate Kid II.

I am a man who would fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’re dreaming of
We’ll live forever knowing together
That we did it all for the glory of love

“I Will Rescue You” by Plus One

Plus One was an American pop band from the 2000s that was created as a sort of counter to the overtly sexual boy and girl bands that were running rampant at the time. Although the band was considered Christian, this song does not contain any overtly religious references.

I will rescue you, I will rescue you
I will shelter you from the rain
I will dry your tears, cast away your fears
And bring you to brighter days
Whenever you’re lost and confused
Like a fairy tale come true
I will rescue you

“I’ll Fight Hell to Hold You” by KISS

This song is definitely a KISS song–lots of guitar and the singer shouts more than sings. Don’t get me wrong, I love KISS, I just think there songs all sound a lot alike (except for “Beth”). But if you want a hard rock song, this song will do it for you.

I’ll fight hell to hold you,
no river too deep or mountain high
I’ll fight hell to hold you by my side
I’m gonna fight hell to hold you,
till time stands still and worlds collide
I’ll fight hell to hold you by my side

“Keep On Loving You” by REO Speedwagon

This popular song by REO Speedwagon was written by Kevin Cronin. It’s his own response to discovering that his wife cheated on him. It is often considered one of the all time best love songs because the lyrics make it clear that he will keep on loving her no matter what she did.

And I meant, every word I said
When I said that I love you, I meant that I’d love you forever
And I’m gonna keep on loving you
Cause it’s the only thing I wanna do
I don’t wanna sleep
I just wanna keep on loving you

“Lady” by Lionel Ritchie or Kenny Rogers

Lionel Richie wrote this song specifically for Kenny Rogers, who loved it and made it a hit in 1981. Richie then went on to record his own version of it, which is very similar to Rogers’ version. The beginning of the song says the meaning the best “Lady, I’m your knight in shining armor and I love you / You have made me what I am and I am yours.”

You have gone and made me such a fool
I’m so lost in your love
And oh, we belong together
Won’t you believe in my song?

Lady, for so many years I thought I’d never find you
You have come into my life and made me whole
Forever let me wake to see you each and every morning
Let me hear you whisper softly in my ear

“The Distance” by Bon Jovi

If you’ve never heard this song of Bon Jovi, you’re not alone. It’s one of their more recent songs that was included on their 2010 album, Bounce. In the song, the narrator is telling his girl that he’s fighting to get through everything that is keeping them apart.

Close your eyes and see my blue skies
breaking through these dark clouds
You are the light
In my mind I see your red dress
and your arms are reaching through the night
I’ll never give up the fight
I’ll go the distance
